Onomastics (or in older texts, onomatology) is the study of the etymology, history, and the use of proper names. To succinctly put, onomastics or onomatology is the study of names. In Greek terms, the name, Natasha, means resurrection. Etymologically, the true meaning of Natasha cannot be described with just a few words. Natasha connotes destiny, heart’s desire, infectious and affable personality. It is a name that implies a pioneering spirit.

They are natural born leaders, highly focused, achievement oriented, with enduring hardship to try out new things which comes to them naturallly; always with good mental and emotional balance in their personality, highly analytical with keen observation, intellectual aristocrat, innovative and always imbued with unparalleled creativity, attractive and bewitching as individuals, known for tough image with a caring and kind personality, brave, selfless with a beloved character amongst fans, always willing to lend helping hands and often goes out of their way to help others, fiercely loyal, standing by friends no matter what, sociable, restless, lovers of change, seeker of adventure and new thrills, bold, independent, inquisitive and interested in research, they enjoy the pleasures of life, and when self is overcome, they can rise to any heights with the ability to avoid trouble.

For the sake of those who may not have been acquainted with the name, Natasha Akpoti. She is the senator representing Kogi Central in the 10th assembly. As a woman with coat of many colors, she is a Barrister and social entrepreneur with incurable penchant in investigative journalism. As a result of her uninhibited passion in investigative journalism, she rose to national prominence when she took on the corrupt activities that surrounded the Ajaokuta Steel Mill, before the National Assembly.

Her curiosity detailed the repetitive /periodic waste of government funds and embezzlement since the initial construction of the steel mill which remains inactive despite the humongous budget allocation to get it operational. Perceived to be fighting a just cause, the investigation was vehemently opposed by the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel to an extent that Akpoti was alleged of scandalous campaign of calumny so as to discredit the government and serve some vested interest. As God would have it, she was vindicated by a High Court sitting in Abuja which ordered the publisher of Authority newspaper, Ifeanyi Uba and Williams Orji, to pay the sum of ten million naira in damages to Akpoti for their heartless libelous publication against her.

As an implacable crusader of social change, Natasha took active interest in politics because she sees it as a veritable vehicle for social deliverables. Before her foray into partisan politics, she was already propagating her gospel of change through her foundation, Builders Hub Impact Investment Program, BHIIP. This she has been able to do as a result of her enviable social and academic armaments. Not a political jobber as it is common in our political firmament, Natasha is a sound Barrister, socal entrepreneur and an eudaemonic leader with futuristic insights to boost. As if she knew that she would be a social advocate, she went to study law in the prestigious University of Abuja, where she graduated with a bachelor of law degree, and she later proceeded for her mandatory law school. To further arm herself, she proceeded to the University of Dundee where she graduated with Masters of law degree. She is also a holder of Masters of Business Administration in Oil and Gas Management, from the University of Dundee. Subsequently upon the completion of her studies, she had a stint with Brass LNG as a legal counsel.

Always looking for a larger platform to reach out to those living in the slough of despond, she once again activated her political engine by evincing interest in the Kogi Central senatorial seat. This she has done several times but in way or other, the untoward happened. But in 2023, the dynamics changed as she contested for the senatorial seat under the platform of the PDP with 52,132 votes as against Sadiku Ohere of the APC, who polled 51,763 votes, and she lost to her opponent who was declared winner by the INEC with a difference of 369 votes margin.

Being a resilient fighter, she approached the court to seek for redress. In a fierce legal fireworks, she was declared winner by the election petition tribunal while her opponent’s victory became pyrrhic. In another booth of legal tussle, she was again declared winner by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, which ruled that she was the legitimate winner of the Kogi Central senatorial election. Again, her opponent suffered another ghastly humiliating defeat as his prayers were dismissed by the court for lacking in merit, and she was declared winner of the election after polling the highest number of satisfactory and lawful votes in the poll.
