Democracy will be perceived to be fair, when all political interest & divides in a multi – faceted set – up like ours is often not marginalized.
For democracy to thrive without hassles, major and minutest interest must be protected in all political deliberations and considerations.
Over time, Kabba -Bunu/ Ijumu Federal Constituency are highly educated, resourceful and versatile political animals. But the political equation and representation delicately favour some districts at the expense of Bunu.
For emphasis sake, Bunu district is a major factor and determinants of who become what in the political equation of Kabba-Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency. This fact remains sacrosant and verifiable.
Unfortunately, the Bunu people who have continued to be a proactive & consistent performer in the election processes have been short-changed in the scheme of political representation.
For the records, Ijumu is having 16 years in the green dome, Kabba had 12 uninterrupted years while Bunu district just enjoyed 4 years representation!
Where is fairness, equity and justice in the above configuration! Is it not high time the gap is bridged to create an all – inclusive representation?
The Bunu – lokan slogan, gaining momentum like a wildfire is all about bargain: it is a stake on a claim given to negotiations, agreement and pacification.
It is not a deliberate ploy to throwing down the gauntlet and challenging the other districts that make up Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu for a duel.
Bunu – lokan is the Bunu people well- oiled machinery and negotiating rallying cry in their quest towards the fair share of House of Representatives seat among the other districts.
In reality, there continue to exist a yawning gap between representations in Kabba – Bunu/ Ijumu Federal Constituency, with implications for fairness, unity, tranquility and cohesion.
Fact be told, Kabba and Ijumu have often, wield disproportionate influence over political decisions, while Bunu district struggle to have their voice heard.
This supposed imbalance not only undermines the principle of equal representation but also perpetuates a cycle where political decisions continue to favour (Kabba- Ijumu) marginalising the Bunus.
As Kabba -Bunu/ Ijumu continue to evolve its democratic framework, addressing inequality remains a fundamental challenge.
It is, therefore, imperative to ensuring a fair political representation, and strengthening democratic institutions starting with the 2027 House of Representatives election.
In conclusion, the Bunu people have an equal opportunity to participate in & benefit from the democratic process like the other districts. For equity, fairness, inclusivity and justice, it is the turn of Bunu to produce the next House of Representatives in 2027.
