Justice Valentine Ashi, sitting at the FCT Abuja High Court yesterday ordered the State Security Services (SSS) to produce in court tomorrow, a Federal High Court order that gave the SSS permission to keep Kogi State University lecturer, Dr. Muhammad Nazeef Yunus, for another 45 days.
The cleric who was arrested October 30 this year at his Jos residence was alleged to have acted as recruitment co-ordinator of the Boko Haram sect. Justice Ashi had insisted on seeing the Federal High Court order (evidence) to enable the court to know how to access the order.
When the case for the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the cleric came up yesterday, the court was told that the SSS had sought and obtained yesterday (Monday) an order from the Federal High Court to keep him for another 45 days.
The SSS had earlier filed an affidavit challenging the bail application made on his behalf. According to the SSS, the cleric should not be admitted to bail because he is a suspected member of the Boko Haram. However, the lawyer to cleric, Barrister Salihu Sanni, asked for time to enable him file a better affidavit to challenge facts stated by the SSS why the cleric should not be admitted to bail. Dr. Yunus is an assistant lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies, Kogi State University, Ayingba where he teaches Arabic and Islamic Studies.
