As the world celebrates the global education day, Biraidu Unity Foundation has joined the global community in celebrating the seventh edition of the International Day of Education, observed annually on January 24th.
This year’s theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” calls for a renewed commitment to harmonizing technological innovation with the timeless values that underpin human development.
In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, the Secretary of the Foundation, Mr. Abuh Joseph, congratulated educators, policymakers, and advocates on their tireless efforts to shape a brighter future through education.
“Education remains the most powerful tool for driving sustainable development and empowering individuals to reach their full potential. As the world navigates the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence, we must ensure that education retains its role in fostering creativity, empathy, and critical thinking. AI should be a tool that amplifies human agency, not diminishes it,” he stated.
Biraidu Unity Foundation, known for its commitment to advancing education and social welfare in rural communities, recognizes the transformative potential of AI in creating equitable learning opportunities.
However, the Foundation emphasizes that human-centered education must remain at the heart of every innovation.
To mark this year’s International Day of Education, the Foundation reaffirmed its dedication to Enhancing Access to Education by providing educational materials and resources to underserved schools and communities.
The foundation also promised to Promote Digital Literacy by Organizing workshops and training programs to equip teachers and students with skills to thrive in an AI-driven world.
Mr. Abuh further called on stakeholders in education to invest in policies and infrastructure that bridge the digital divide, ensuring that no community is left behind in the global shift toward technology-enhanced learning.
“The theme of this year’s celebration is a clarion call for us all to strike a balance between progress and humanity. Let us collectively ensure that as automation advances, education remains a space where individuals can thrive not just as learners, but as thinkers, creators, and compassionate contributors to society,” he added.
