Beyond #EndSARS: Challenges Before Us

Directing our youths to locations where palliatives, tricycles or motorbikes and other valuables are kept is a call for anarchy and I suggest we should all loudly condemn such a call as it’s one for grand larceny and treason.

As it is, we don’t have what it takes to wage such crisis if it snow balls rather, we all shall face the wrath irrespective of our political affiliation, tribe, religion or social status. We should rather prevail on the conscience of our leaders to do the needful rather than calling the youths to invade locations where palliatives and other “valuable” items are kept.

The protests should go beyond #EndSARS, we should rise as a people and demand for good governance in protection and defence of democracy; ultimately, by voting for people with integrity, great ideas, wisdom, visions and missions to salvage the entire citizens out of the present state of poverty, insecurity, chaos and anarchy for a robust economy and peaceful co-existence to thrive.

We can bring ourselves together and use these protests to make our voices to be heard and should discourage the youths from taking laws into their hands and equally differentiate between rightful protesters and hooligans that take advantage of these protests to perpetrate evil.

In a nutshell, we do not necessarily have to take to the streets to invade our roads, breaking law and order and infringe on other peoples rights, rather we can purposefully use our social media platforms to make our voices heard in protection of democracy. We can use this opportunity to ask for electoral reforms, local government financial autonomy and the likes.

As far as the government is concerned, the #EndSARS protests have spoken loudly, they have heard it, they have swung into action by disbanding SARS and have promised to reform the police force.

While this is ongoing, we can equally lend our voices to other critical issues like removing Local Government elections from the hands of the State Independent Electoral Commissions to allow free and fair elections to thrive. These are germane issues that should be seriously addressed.
