Lokoja was the centre of attraction for the World over as the Kogi state capital was adopted for visit over the weekend by the BBC World Service when Wigan defeated Manchester City 1:0 to lift the English FA Cup.
An ardent Wigan Athletic FC supporter, Samuel Ahmadu who lives in Lokoja attracted the BBC crew as the English globally followed media outfit seek to know why the Nigerian supports the less fancied English club turned 43rd different Champions of the FA Cup.
Sam who fielded couple of questions live at various intervals on the leading English radio celebrated signing in yoruba,”oshe ohh, oshe ohh Baba” live on BBC Sports World special programme after Wigan’s epic and maiden trophy celebration.
“I can never forget the moment, a huge epic moment- incredible success story, cannot celebrate Wigan achievements in excess as we shock the World by stunning star-studded Manchester City to lift the coveted English FA Cup.
“We are in no ranks of City but with huge believe and fighting spirit we make history by winning our first major title in 81 years of
history,” the amazingly delighted lone Nigerian Wigan supporter loudly shared with BBC World Service live from Lokoja.
However, the Wigan spokesfan for BBC World Service believes the 1:0 victory over Manchester City in Cup final will play a huge role
helping Wigan beat the relegation drop.
He insisted that the victory will send a warning signal you next opponents, Arsenal at Emirate as Wigan battle to play in their ninth
successive season.
“We have done it, the confidence and determination of the club and supporters played an incredible role against City, I’m sure this will
be a food for thought and will send fears down the ribs of Arsenal supporters.”
Sam commended BBC World Service on their incredible efforts to reach out to supporters of English clubs from World over, stressing that the moment on was far fulfilling as the Kogi state capital became a popular place in the ears of people from world over.
Samuel Ahmadu started supporting Wigan since club’s first day in the English Premier League date back to 2005 after watching the Paul Jewell then managed side hold out Jose Morinho’s then tutored Chelsea till 94th minutes before snatching a winner at DW then JJB stadium in the season opening game.
