Pastor Babagbemi Joseph Adejola, a frontline aspirant for the House of Representatives in Yagba Federal Constituency and founder of the GB Irorun Foundation, has empowered over 3,000 farmers and market women across Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas with agricultural inputs, expert support, and free materials under the GB-IRORUN AgriDevelopment Programme 2.0.

The initiative, which spanned six districts in the constituency, featured the sales of subsidised farm inputs, alongside free branded aprons for market women.

In addition, beneficiaries received guidance and hands-on demonstrations from experienced agricultural extension workers mobilized by the Foundation to provide technical support and improve farm productivity at the grassroots level.

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Mr. Oluwi Sesan, the programme coordinator, said the intervention was designed to address the core challenges faced by smallholder farmers and petty traders, particularly in accessing affordable farm inputs and practical knowledge.

“We didn’t just distribute materials, we empowered people with knowledge,” Oluwi said.

“Through our agro-extension agents, farmers were trained on proper chemical application, pest control, and improved cultivation methods to boost yield and safety. Market women also received aprons at no cost as a symbol of respect and to promote hygiene in their daily trade.”

To ensure sustainability, the Foundation also announced the establishment of seven (7) Point of Sales (POS) outlets across the constituency. These outlets, Oluwi explained, will serve as community hubs for continued access to subsidised inputs and future agricultural programmes.

In his remarks, Pastor Adejola reaffirmed his commitment to improving rural livelihoods and promoting food security through consistent, grassroots-driven support.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our local economy,” he said. “When you support farmers and traders, you’re not just putting food on tables, you’re putting dignity in households and hope in the land.

“We are building a self-reliant agricultural ecosystem, one that empowers the farmer, supports the trader, and uplifts the entire Yagba community,” he said.

“This initiative is not a one-off,” he added. “We are laying the foundation for a new rural economy, one that thrives on knowledge, access, and shared prosperity. It’s about building systems that outlive political cycles.”

Pastor Adejola also called on government agencies, NGOs, and private stakeholders to invest more in rural agribusiness and inclusive empowerment programmes.
