Capt Idris Wada, Kogi State Governor, represented by his Deputy, Arc Yomi Awoniyi at inaugural meeting of the newly formed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum said the newly formed forum is geared towards strengthening and repositioning the party ahead 2015 and beyond.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, in his speech said the nation’s security challenge can only be surmounted when state Governors join hands with the Federal Government in tackling the present insecurity bedeviling the country.
The BOT Chairman said the Nigerian Police can not perform miracle in tackling insecurity without information, appealed to the State Governors to seek for information in their States that will help in ensuring security of lives and properties in the country.
The BOT Chairman pledged the support of the party to the newly formed PDP Governors Forum, urged the Governors to imbibe the spirit of give and take,forgiveness and urged them to remain loyal to the party.
Chief Anenih urged the Governors to work against things that will divide them adding that the current leadership challenge in the country is enormous, requires sincerity and commitment.
Chief Anenih called on the PDP State Governors to be up and doing so as to achieve success in their endeavours, pointing out that the people are eagerly waiting for development.
Earlier in his speech, Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State Governor and Chairman PDP Governors forum, said the meeting was aimed at looking at the South West crisis with a view to bringing to an end the crisis.
Chief Akpabio described the PDP as a truly national party, reassured of the party’s commitment not to let Nigerians down.
The Governors congratulated the BOT Chairman, called on him to use his wealth of experience to advice the National Working Committee as well as uniting the party.
The meeting ended with the setting up of a five Man PDP Governors Forum Advisory Security Committee, headed by Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State.
Other members of the committee are the Governors of Kaduna, Delta, Kano and Abia State expected to proffer solution and collaborate with the Federal Government on security.
The meeting also proposed to review the constitution of the Forum in its next meeting.
