People of Kogi West Senatorial District of Kogi State have been tasked to come together and fashion a template that would see to the growth and development of the area.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi gave the charge at a meeting encompassing people of the district held in Mopa.
The meeting which is first of its kind for those appointed, elected and some in the private sectors, was attended by all that mattered in the seven local government areas that made up the district. The meeting also cuts across party affiliation. Those who attended are those appointed at the federal and state level, those elected at all levels in the state and those who are in other private sectors of the economy but hailed from the district.
Awoniyi disclosed that the meeting among others was initiated to put together to fashion out ways that will develop the area and to discuss ways that will help reduce tension and ensure a rancor free politics.
Awoniyi described people of the district as distinct and unique in their ways of life, said the challenges associated with modern day development and governance demands that people of same affiliation must come together to form a united front to be able to achieve their dreams and aspiration.
The meeting Awoniyi said was also called upon to thank God for the outgoing year and to galvanize the people of the area ahead of the challenges of the coming year.
Awoniyi commended Capt Idris Wada,Kogi State Governor for given attention to the district in terms of appointment and infrastructure development.
Also speaking, Senator Smart Adeyemi, representing West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, called on people of the area to use the forum to articulate issues affecting them.
Sen Smart disclosed that democracy is a worst form of government when people are badly represented, commended the coming together of representatives of people of the West after a long time.
He described the meeting of the district as one major achievements of the Capt Wada’s administration, adding that it is a testimony of a working synergy existing between government and people of the district.
Also speaking, Hassan Salawu, State Chairman of the PDP, urged politicians from the area to play politics devoid of rancor.
He warned politicians from the area against selfish ambition that will tear the area apart, said power belongs to God, called on politicians to have faith in God and lauded the coming together of people from the area as signs of good things to come for the district in the near future.
Others who spoke at the meeting include; Olushola Akanmode, Henry Ojuola, Suleiman Babadoko, Nathaniel Taiwo, Justina Abanida and Comrade Aiyelabo all commended the foresight of the Kogi State Deputy Governor for bringing people of the area together in one gathering, describing it as unprecedented.
All the speakers called for the holding of regular meeting by the area, as this they say will afford the district the opportunity to always take a common fronts on issues concerning the district.
