Following the contradictions and inconsistency noticed in the different copies of the Supreme Court judgment presented by different groups in the land dispute between Iyamoye/Ekinrin – Ade, the Kogi State Government has directed the State Ministry of Justice to get the certified true copy from the Supreme Court.
The decision was reached at the stakeholders meeting on Iyamoye/Ekinrin – Ade land dispute held in Lokoja and presided over by Yomi Awoniyi State Deputy Governor, and Kogi State Chairman Boundary Committee.
The stakeholders meeting was for the presentation of joint field team report carried – out on the field tracing and provisional demarcation as directed by the Supreme Court judgment of Iyamoye/Ekinrin – Ade land dispute.
Awoniyi appreciated the people in the manner in which they have legally approach the issue rather than resorting to violence or self help, said the certify true copy will validate or repudiate the tracing exercise that has been conducted.
While he noted that boundary demarcation is not meant to divide the people but to encourage harmonious relationship and economic development, he maintained that no meaningful development would be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor.
Awoniyi encouraged people of the community to demonstrate honesty, and true commitment with the resolve to ending the acrimonies of the past.
Earlier in his remarks, the Surveyor General of the State, Moses Oguns, said the decision to trace the Iyamoye/Ekinrin – Ade boundary as directed by the National Boundary Commission, followed the Supreme Court judgment of 1995.
In his remarks, Dayo Akanmode, Vice – Chairman Ijumu Local Government Area, urged the communities to continue to maintain peace, and should imbibe the spirit of give and take as a way to resolving the dispute.
The meeting was attended by Barr. Tunde Bello, Solicitor General, Kogi State Ministry of Justice, representatives of Iyamoye and Ekirin – Ade communities.
