The Kogi State Government says the issues of youths unemployment in the country is becoming endemic and requires that government at all levels must begin to think in an uncommon way to resolve the problem.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi stated this at the on-going recruitment exercise held by the Nigerian Army, Charimegumeri Barracks, in Lokoja.
Awoniyi described the growing rate of youths unemployment in the country as worrisome, despite efforts by successive administrations to provide gainful employment.
The State Deputy Governor also disclosed that the present administration under Capt Idris Wada has placed priority in engaging youths of the state, but said despite the over seven thousand youths the present administration has engaged under its Youths Advancement for Development Programme among other forms of employment it has offered its teeming youths since the inception of the administration, the statistics of those unemployed in the state he added is still worrisome.
The Deputy Governor called on government at all levels to begin to study issues of youths unemployment with a view to finding lasting solutions that will gainfully engage youths across the country.
Awoniyi lauded the process put in place by the Army for the examination, assured those aspiring to be enlisted into the Army of a process that will allow only brilliant candidates emerge.
Earlier in his remarks, Major General Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar, Commandant, Charimegumeri Barracks, Lokoja, said out of the over 7000 applicants, 5512 were short listed for the initial screening and examination.
The Commandant disclosed that the examination which would be marked by a computer based system, assured of a highly transparent process that would allow for the best to be selected.
