…Gov Bello is ‘duplicating’ projects already awarded by past govts
Igala vanguard has accused Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello of denying Kogi East zone of the state basic social amenities.
In a press release signed by the convener of the group, Engineer Lawrence Akpa, they called on the governor to re-open the new Odu General Hospital that was closed down on his assumption of office as governor and resume work on Kogi state university teaching hospital in Anyigba.
The group expressed worries on the closure of the new modern Odu general hospital built and commissioned by the immediate past administration of Captain Idris Wada stating that the hospital was a government intervention to help ameliorate the numerous health challenges faced by the people of the area.
They alleged that the Governor intentionally ignored Kogi East zone and is busy awarding contracts for infrastructural development in his Kogi central zone.
“Governor Yahaya Bello deliberately ordered the closure of the new model hospital at Odu and refused to resume work on the 265 bed Kogi State University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba. Instead of these, he ordered the construction of new eye, cottage hospital in the central part of the state along with new road constructions”, the statement reads.
“The multimillion naira cottage and teaching hospitals were part of projects awarded by the immediate past governor, Capt Idris Wada. The Odu hospital was equipped and staffed in line with the standards for establishment of any new hospital to ensure immediate take off and utilisation of the facilities.
The group said the closure of Odu hospital is a huge risk as equipment and facilities on ground can be vandalised while warning the governor that the planned relocation of the university teaching hospital from current location will be vehemently resisted.
The group also berated the governor for re-awarding road projects that have been awarded by past administrations in the state.
“Governor Bello has embarked on duplication of projects earlier awarded by the administration of Capt Wada to achieve cheap political points. These road projects include the Idah-Umomi road and Ankpa township roads. He ignored Ankpa-Ade road and awarded Ibana-Okpo, Iga Ikeje-Ogugu-Ette road to pacify his chief of staff, Edward Onoja.
