The Kogi State Governor Idris Wada has said that incessant road accidents on Lokoja-Abuja road is taking its toll on public health institutions in the state.

The governor, who stated this at the weekend in Lokoja, during the 2014 special marshal sectoral workshop, said a situation where hospitals are being inundated with corpses and injured victims of road accidents daily poses a great danger to residents’ health.

Wada, who was represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Abdulrhman Wuya, said medical personnel in the state spend most of their time attending to accident victims at the expense of other patients, appealing for concerted efforts to check crashes on the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road.

He added that the state government on its part will continue to render necessary support to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to reduce crashes across the country.

Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshall, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, said capacity building for marshals will continue to receive attention, as the corps is desirous of maximizing their outputs and performances.

The corps marshal, who was represented by Mr Angus Ibezim, commended the special marshals for their collaboration with the organisation.
