The estranged wife of the former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, Mrs Aisha Audu, has denied a story that we reported last week on ‘DNA Test Reveals Audu Not Father of Wife’s Daughter’
Mrs Aisha Audu through her media adviser, Femi Soneye, in a release said the purported DNA test was carried out by the Audu without the legal recommendation of witnesses.
Soneye said the statement of the former governor on the issue was highly regrettable. “The statement of Prince Audu on this matter was both incredible and morbidly amusing. The paternity test ordered by the District Judge of Montgomery County requested by the attorneys of Prince Audu was to have taken place the same day with Chief Mrs. Aisha Audu on 25th of May, 2011.
“Prince Audu went ahead to have the test arranged by his counsel and done without the consent of the court or his wife’s lawyer, on the 19th of May, 2011 without any witness and in the same building that houses his lawyers.”
According to Soneye, any test carried out under such circumstance could not and would not be legally binding because the course of law was not properly followed.
“Contrary to what he presents to the public and his comical attempt to make people believe that Mrs. Aisha Audu is after his properties, it is unfortunate that Prince Abubakar Audu has instead seized all her (Mrs Aisha Audu) properties and had tried to sell her landed property without her knowledge and proper documentation.
“At no time during this trial had she requested for his properties to be given to her as part of a divorce settlement. At no time has the issue of property sharing been discussed, rather she demanded to reside in the property with their children while she was on post-natal care in the US, instead she and the children were evicted under sub-zero degree winter weather,” the statement said.
The release however revealed that the wife had requested for a supervised DNA test which will be acceptable to all.
“Interestingly, a supervised court DNA test with both the former governor and his wife present at the same time with a court witness, has been requested,” it stated.
It would be recalled that the former Kogi State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, in a statement through his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr. Abraham Akogu, in Abuja, recently disclosed that the DNA test to determine the paternity of the girl child Aisha bore the former governor was negative. He further revealed that the former governor who had been suspicious of his estranged wife insisted on the test to confirm the paternity of the girl only to find out that that he was not the biological father of the child.
Audu, it was alleged had suspected that the girl child his former First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Audu bore him was not his real daughter, hence, the former governor insisted on a DNA test to determine the paternity of the child.
The couple’s effort at clarifying the authentic paternity of the child led Aisha before a Montgomery County Court, presided over by Justice Dennis Michael Mchugh, to allege her husband of domestic violence, and the family’s abandonment in the US, among others.
Audu, however, informed the court that Aisha was six months pregnant at the time she left his house for America, saying there was no way he could father such child.
Speaking through Mr Akogu, Audu said he could not “compromise his image built over the years on the altar of cheap blackmail by a greedy woman.”
Akogu further revealed that Aisha, prior to the test, had initially objected to the conduct of the DNA test, until the Montgomery County Court ordered her to submit herself for the test.
Meanwhile, further hearing on the case will take place in Maryland court on Friday, September 8, 2011.
