African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign council for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency in Kogi state has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to desist from taking the calm disposition of the electorate in the area for granted.

The campaign council also counseled INEC not to become a tool in the hands of individuals in manipulating or compromising the genuine will of the people.

In a statement signed by the Director General of the campaign council, Hon. Tunde Akanmidu, ADC said any attempt to subvert the will of the people on the just concluded House of Representatives election in the constituency will be restricted by every legal means.

The party decried the long delay in announcing the winner of the just concluded House of Representatives election by the electoral umpire, insisting that results of the election which was concluded and signed by the Returning Officer must be announced without further delay.

“The results of the concluded House of Representatives elections which was signed by INEC returning officer, all party agents and copies given to various stakeholders including the police, DSS, NSCDC, INEC and party representatives is yet to be announced after the sudden disappearance of the returning officer citing over voting and violence in some certain polling units.

“The election has been won and lost as evidently documented in the result given to all stakeholders but we are still surprised why the delay in announcing the winner for more than 48 hours now,” he said.

Akanmide said the campaign council will continue to maintain decorum and be law abiding in the pursuit of their freely given mandate, but will, however, not stop at nothing in deploying every legal means until the party’s flag bearer, Arc. Salman Idris is announced as the winner of the election having secured the highest number of valid votes cast.
