Kogi state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) says no amount of propaganda and intimidation would stop the desired change the people of the state are yearning for in the forthcoming November governorship election.
The SDP, in a statement issued to newsmen in Lokoja on Tuesday, condemned “the futile attempt by the Kogi state government to cover up the last weekend intimidation and assassination attempt” on it governorship candidate, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, by forcefully dragging traditional rulers and Council Chairmen of the state into issuing statements as one that amounts to nothing.
In the statement signed by it State Publicity Secretary, Dauda Romo Mayaki, the SDP pointed out that the people of the state and across the country are all aware of the truth that transpired, insisting that the party has pictorial evidences to buttress it claim that the attack on it candidate was sponsored by agents of the state government.
Mayaki lamented the attempt by the state government to use traditional rulers and council chairmen in the state to issue statements condemning the attack, disclosing that the efforts is one in futility and very unfortunate.
The SDP said it is aware that the traditional rulers and council chairmen were all railroaded and forced into issuing statements in condemnation of the attack.
They maintained that the party has pictorial evidences and footages of the vehicles used in blocking the road as well as several vehicles of the SDP governorship candidate and party members vandalized by the state government agents.
The SDP described the attempt through statements to cover up the attempt to assassinate its governorship candidate as efforts that stands logic on its head, insisting that it has enough evidences that the attack was masterminded by sponsored agents of the government, pointing out that the party and its candidate would not be cowed into submission.
While the SDP expressed appreciation to members of the public as well as its numerous supporters for standing strong and for the moral support it has received since after the attack, the party added that the movement for change presently blowing across the state is an indication that the people are more than ever desirous of positive change that would transform their lives as promised by the party’s governorship candidate.
