Attack on Journalist: INGRA Commends Kogi Govt, Police Over Arrest of Suspects

A civil society organization, Initiative for Grassroot Advancement in Nigeria (INGRA) has commended the Nigeria Police Force for its swift response to calls for the arrest of hoodlums who attacked a journalist in Lokoja last week.

A statement issued by the executive director of INGRA, Hamza Aliyu, in Lokoja on Friday confirmed that two suspects have bee arrested by the police in connection to the attack.

Aliyu said the prompt investigation and arrest of the culprits would serve as a deterrent to other miscreants.

“Sequel to the dastardly attack on the Investigative Journalist/News Editor of Confluence TV/Grace FM, we called on the Nigerian Police and the Kogi State Government to immediately Investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the act.

“Reports from the Nigerian Police Force Kogi State Command has shown that 2 person have been arrested as a result of their investigation and are awaiting prosecution.

“Our Journalists are a critical part of our democracy and must be protected at all cost.

“We also wish to commend the Kogi State Government for providing the support in terms of logistics for the investigation. The Alhaji Yahaya Bello Government must continue on this positive path and continue to garner the confidence of the people,” he said.

The activist challenged citizens to be courageous in calling out their government where they fail to act or act too slowly. He added that citizens must exhibit same courage when occasions arise that demands that commend same government.
