The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Kogi state chapter has condemned the recent attack on the Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at the juma’at praying ground, saying it was absurd, barbaric and unislamic.
The chairman of the association and administrator of Ijumu local government council, Alhaji Taufiq Isa, accused aggrieved politicians of colluding with some local government council employees to embarrass the governor at the event kick-starting the 25th anniversary with jumaat prayer.
In a press statement signed by his media adviser, Abubakar Suleman, Taufiq said: “it became glaring that some overzealous politicians and workers are behind the recent attack. We are puzzled by the attack on the governor, especially now that the he has concluded plans to pay 3 months salaries to state, local government workers and primary school teachers”.
He urged politicians not to turn the peaceful state into another theater of violence, urging the security agents to bring to justice without delay those already apprehended while imploring the people to be calm and pray for the economic challenges facing the states and Nigeria in general.
