African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition Support Network has condemned the vicious attack on the party office in Dekina town, Kogi state.
In statement signed by the State Coordinator, Hon. Ajodo Onuh, the arsonists attacked ADC party office in Dekina on Wednesday morning.
Describing the attack as a threat to democracy, Ajodo said the destruction of property and threats to lives are a clear indication of the thugs’ desperation to impose a one-party system on the people of Dekina.
“This early morning, the ADC office in Dekina town was viciously attacked by thugs who claim to be loyal to the APC. These hoodlums, in a brazen display of intolerance, declared that they would not tolerate any other political party besides the APC in the area. They went further to threaten the lives of pioneers of the ADC Coalition party in Dekina town, vowing to eliminate anyone who dares to support or participate in the party’s activities.
“We ADC Coalition support Network condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. The destruction of property and the threats to lives are a clear indication of the APC-backed thugs’ desperation to impose a one-party system on the people of Dekina. This is unacceptable in a democracy, where every citizen has the right to belong to a political party of their choice,” he said.
The ADC Coalition Support Group called on security agencies to commence immediate investigation into the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“It is the duty of the government to protect the rights of all citizens, including their right to participate in the political process without fear of intimidation or harm.”
He urged the people of Dekina to remain calm and resolute in the face of provocation.
