In a matter of urgent public importance raised before the Kogi State House of Assembly, the Member representing Kabba Bunu Constituency, Prince Mathew Kolawole has observed that the Automated Teller Machines in Kogi are more of decorations, denying bank customers access to their savings.
Kolawole who is also the Majority Leader of the House made the observation on Thursday 6th April, 2017 stating the point of laxity on the side of banks in the state.
According to the lawmaker, rather than providing 24 hours of guaranteed service delivery on demand, customers go through thick to access their money.
“Another issue that necessitated this motion was a customer who wanted to withdraw for medical bills. But unfortunately the money was trapped and the patient last his life in the process.
“It is now a nightmare for Commercial Banks in Kogi State to render services through ATM particularly on weekends, most Banks do not stock the machines with cash to assist any customer wanting to withdraw his money using the machine, and no apology is given for such laxity,” he said.
He also lamented cases where bank customers either get deducted without being paid, or find it tough with reversals in such cases.
His prayers:
“That Honourable House do summon the management of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lokoja Cash Office banks located with Ķogi State to explain the reason.
“That all banks both Commercial and Micro Credit Banks be advised to make sure that all ATM located within their premises or under their operation are made to be functional with adequate cash at all times, even weekends.
“That the public do hereby report all non functional Automated Teller Machine to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
“That more ATM Centres be opened by banks most especially weekends and festive period to reduce the suffering of customers, particularly in Rural Areas.
“That the Security Agencies provide adequate and improved security around the ATMs.”
