Army Handover 4 Drug Suspects to NDLEA Officials in Kogi

The Nigerian Army on Monday handed over four drug suspects with 10 bags of 10kg of substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa to Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The four suspects are: Abubarka Ubali, 25; Yusuf Samaila, 35; Ibrahim Isa, 27; and Hafisu Sanni, 27, from Kano state, were arrested at Agbadu forest along Kabba-Obajana road on Tuesday April 17.
The Commander, Headquarters Command Army Records, Lokoja, Major Gen. Felix Agugo, told journalists that the suspects were arrested at about 5 am on April 17, at Agbadu forest along Kabba-Obajana road, following a tip off, own troops on patrol.
According to Agugo, the suspects claimed that they were coming from Akure, Ondo State en route Kano State to deliver the items to one Alhaji Sanusi Ibrahim based in Kano.
He added that the suspects got information about the operation of troops on patrol and decided to disembark with their loads into Agbadu forest, but unfortunately for them they met with another set of troops in the forest and they were arrested.
Agugo, however urged the NDLEA to ensure that the suspects were thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to ensure that justice was done, stressing the need for the media to follow up the case with the NDLEA.
According to him, there have been some instances where suspects were handed over to prosecuting agencies and the suspects would be released after few days without prosecution, and came out to commit another crime.
He therefore urged the media being the watchdog of the society to ensure that such cases are duly followed up to ensure prosecution.
Lt. Col. Tosin Ayoola, the Army Operation Officer, who handed over the suspects to the NDLEA, urged them to ensure that they do needful by carrying the media along in the process.
In his remarks, Abdulazeez Lawal, the Assistant Supritendent of Narcotics, NDLEA, who received the suspects, assured the Army that proper investigation and prosecution would done.
He noted that atimes not all arrested drug suspects were ultimately the real perpetrators of crimes, saying few of them could sometimes be victim of circumstances and in such cases they would be released if not found guilty.
One of the suspects, Abubakar Ubali, told newsmen that the cannabis was given to them by one John who they had worked for in his cassava farm for two months in Akuse in Akure, Ondo state.
Ubali added that the man (John) told them that he did not have a cash sum of N150, 000 to pay them for their two months wages and decided to give them the 10 bags of cannabis to sell to get their money.
