Opposition parties under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress, APC, currently seeking registration from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has berated the Kogi State government over its decision to access a fresh N20 billion bond, saying such a decision was unwise.
The parties also advised the state governor, Idris Wada, to stop any further negotiation on the issue but rather look inwards to source for funds to run his administration.
At a closed-door meeting in Lokoja at the weekend, the APC members carpeted Governor Wada over the loan, saying the fund from the Federation Account and the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, is enough for the governor to execute his programmes.
Chairman of the interim committee of the APC loyalists group in the state, who read the communiqué after the meeting, Dr Umar Goodman, said the present administration has no business going to borrow money to run the affairs of the state, considering the flow of federal funds and the IGR in the state.
“Governor Wada appeared confused. For almost a year and half that he assumed office, he cannot lay claim to an achievement, except telling us he has been working to finish the uncompleted projects of his predecessor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
“Now there is the news of his N20 billion loan quest. For what? He want to mortgage the state and generations yet unborn, we will resist it legally and legitimately,” he said.

The group said they will not accept the imposition of mediocre or misfits into positions of trust in the new arrangement, adding that the best materials the state can offer should be placed in positions of authority to lead the new party in the state.
The communiqué also noted that the three-man committee, Dr Goodman Umar, Ayo Aberolo and Usofor Abdulsalam, is to work assiduously to see that the substantive executive of the party is constituted.
“The right people should be placed in the right position for us to achieve high degree of quality leadership at both the party level and in the governance of the state.
