The ancient Igala city of Ankpa was held agog in an usual rouse as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ankpa, Olamaboro and Omala federal constituency in the 2019 general elections, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims storms home since penultimate week that he became the cynosure of discussions and speculations within and outside the ancient city.
Before his arrival was sounds and sites of musical display, solidarity songs and obviously zealous supporters assembled at Opulega junction to receive their son who was accompanied by the Chief of staff to Kogi state governor, Hon Edward David Onoja, local government administrators of Olamaboro, Ofu and Dekina as well as other State hierarchies.
Halims whose entry into his father land, Ankpa was like the entrant of Moses and his people to the promised land of Israel as a result of the uncontrollable crowd that has trooped out in solidarity with the highly revered son passing through trial.
At his first point of call, the Onu Ankpa’s palace where he went to pay homage, the Onu Ankpa, HRH. Alhaji Abdulmalik speaking on behalf of the good people of Ankpa local government area described Halims as a dogged fighter whose travails are only but preparation for greatness citing the biblical Joseph and Madiba Mandela as likenesses of his ordeal expressing confidence his time has come to liberate Ankpa federal constituency.
In his remarks at the Onu Ankpa’s palace, the Kogi state chief of staff, Hon Edward David Onoja declared that the ordeal of Halims despite not supposed to be discussed for already been in court is an outright and well suspicious political frame up but the end shall justify the means admonishing politicians to test popularity at the polls rather than tarnishing images earned over years.
On his part, Hon Halims who was taken astonished by the show of love in a very emotional remark made a vow with the Holy Quran exonerating himself of the illicit allegations leveled against him angrily asking God and the might of Quran to destroy him if he is to be secretly guilty and declared same on his adversaries in the event of his innocence.
Also on the emerging Reps entourage were the chief administrator of Ankpa local government, Hon Mohammed Ibrahim, members representing Ankpa I and Ankpa II constituencies at the Kogi state house of assembly, Hon Ahmed Mohammed and Hon Alfa Momoh Rabiu respectively, the local government and party hierarchies and a host of others.
Thereafter, they proceeded to his ancestral home and family clan, Angwa where Hon Halims got a heroic reception from his kinsmen and numerous supporters. As events in the Angwa home of Hon Halims was a repetition of what happened at the Onu Ankpa’s palace, Hon Halims in addendum highlighted his family background from paternal to maternal challenging naysayers to tell their origins, if they have.
