Ankpa COE Students to Each Pay N10,000 for Destroying Property

Students of the Ankpa College of Education in Kogi State will pay N10,000 each as the cost of damages for the destruction of property during a protest in the school.

In a statement by the state’s Commissioner of Information, Dr. Tom Ohikere, the government also approved the dissolution of the institution’s governing council.

The statement said that the decision was taken after critical consideration of the report of the enquiry into the recent demonstration by the students of the college which led to the destruction of government property.

The statement added that the state council has ordered the expulsion of the perpetrators of the ugly incident to serve as a deterrent to others and forestall a reoccurrence.

According to the statement, the government also ordered the immediate redeployment of the college bursar to the office of the state Head of Service, adding that the governing council of the institution would be reconstituted soon to reposition the college.

The statement further said the council has approved the conduct of Basic Education Certificate Examination by the National Examination Council (NECO) which was formerly handled by the state ministry of education to enable the certificate receive national recognition.
