Amazons for Peace Initiative Declares Support for Gov Bello’s Second Term Bid

A group made up of women of substance in Kogi State, Amazons for Peace Initiative, has endorsed Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello in his re-election bid in November gubernatorial polls.

Founder and initiator of the group, Hajiya Nana Abu-Ali made the declaration on Thursday in Lokoja shortly after a walk tagged; “GYB 4 Real Continuity for Consolidation,” which took the group round major parts of the state capital.

Speaking at an elaborate event to mark the walk in the state Government House, Hajiya Nana called on parents to prevail on their children and wards to always toe the path of peace, an anchor on which the entire walk was themed.

She noted that part of the essence of the event was to make it public that women play pivotal roles in the overall societal development, noting that the government of Yahaya Bello had given them the sense of worth like has never been enjoyed by the women folk in the past.

The convener who empathized with the Governor for the continued flack being suffered from the opposition in the state said it was difficult to right over twenty-five years of wrongs meted to the state by previous administrations.

She therefore called on the people of the state to continue in their support of Governor Yahaya Bello, who she added, was the best bet for the youth and women of Kogi State.

The Secretary to the state government, Mrs Folashade Ayoade in a paper at the occasion, blamed major vices in the society on lack of peace in several homes among couples which rob several children of good upbringing.

She said it was only in an atmosphere of tranquility that parents could impart their wards with good parentage which was capable of bringing about obedient youths that eschew all forms of violence and unrest.

She applauded the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello for making security one of his top priorities, hence the peace and harmonious coexistence being enjoyed in the state.

Other speakers, including the zonal coordinators for East, West and Central Senatorial Districts of the state; Hons Mrs Ejura Onoja, Bimpe Alfred and Saadat Atimah, all emphasised the role of peace in creating an egalitarian society, noting that as mothers, it was pertinent they preach the need for people of the state to live harmoniously.
