In a press release made available to newsmen, Ajaokuta Youths under the umbrella of Ajaokuta Youths Forum has threatened to recall Hon. Lawal Idirisu, a member representing Ajaokuta local government at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
According to the leader of the group, Comrade James Mohammed, the recall is necessary due to the non-performance of the House of Representative member.
The group alleged that since his assumption to office, Hon. Lawal has failed to execute or embark on meaningful projects and empower the youths and women in the area.
“In fact, it is time for Hon. Lawal Idris to get set for his recall. This is because we didn’t vote him to abandon us and enrich himself, his family and some few people. We voted him to bring dividends of democracy down to the people at the grass root. Hon. Lawal must stop taking us for granted. Enough is enough. We have not seen where a House of representative member empowers his people with white garri and fake appointment letters. This is uncalled for. We could have just waited for 2019 to vote him out, but we keep on retrogressing everyday and we cannot take it anymore. Thank God the Nigerian constitution has empowered us to recall any non-performing elected political office holder like Hon. Lawal Idris and we are ready to do that soon”, James said.
In a swift response to the allegations against Lawal, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ajaokuta, Alhaji Tawhid Usman described James Mohammed’s diatribe as unfounded.
However, the group gave Hon. Lawal one-month ultimatum to sit up or be recalled. To avoid recall, the group charged the lawmaker to remove all the disjointed street lights fixed at the front of his loyal supporters’ houses and re-arrange them accordingly in strategic places that need it.
“He should come home and meet with the people who elected him to know and feel their problems by making his rented apartments called offices functional and accessible to the people. He should construct drainage across the local government, grade and tar Omgbo to Ebiya road and call the attention of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to Okene-Ajaokuta road.
“While we know he cannot execute the above projects in one month, we want to see him embarking on some of them as soon as possible or else we will begin his recall process”, James added.
