The Executive Secretary General of the African Iron and Steel Association, Mr. Sanusi Mohammed, has said that the Ajaokuta Steel Company is capable of generating 30,000 employment opportunities.
Mohammed said that if the mill was developed and operates at its capacity of 5.2 million tons per annum, 30,000 Nigerians would be free from poverty.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, yesterday, that industrial activities to be triggered by the mill would also generate 10 times of the 30,000 job prospects, which would amount to some 300,000 opportunities.
“If Ajaokuta is there, there would be proliferation of other industries to support the raw materials, like the production of nails, bolts and electrode for welding.
“These would empower the welders, engineers, roadside workers and would empower millions of other Nigerians,” he said.
According to Mohammed, the revenue prospects of the company and its associated industries would surpass the one coming from oil and gas.
