The achievement of a legislator is not judged by how well he contributes to debate on the floor of the house alone, but rather how he has impacted the life of the people especially in the area of poverty alleviation, assist the people by putting meals on their tables and you have a way to their hearts and votes at the elections.
Many Nigerian politicians especially lawmakers have lost out of the power game not because they were never high performers in the National or state Assemblies, but because they have lost connection with the masses in their constituency who needed shoulders to rest on. But find a way to meet the needs of the people in your constituency and they will continue to re-elect you.
This is the wisdom which Honourable Ahmed Mohammed, representing Ankpa I State constituency has imbedded, and it is responsible for calls by his people for his re-election. In fact his popularity has continued to grow day by day.
Since Hon. Ahmed Mohammed was elected to represent the people of Ankpa I state constituency, he has fought poverty in his constituency with numerous poverty alleviation schemes. His guiding principle is to see many in his constituency happy as he put it: I have been in this thing (giving assistance to the people) for years, I am a business man. My business is doing well; I am not one of those who believe it is what you make in politics that you bring home, even before I joined politics I have been supporting my people. Politics just created the platform to support much more people, and my personal resources go into some of these supports, the joy and my personal accomplishment is to see smiles on the faces of these people. I am always happy when I give and some of them show their appreciation with smiles or cry of joy; I am happier when I see that with my moderate contribution they can feed themselves and members of their family.
Since he took over the mantle of leadership to representing his people in the Kogi State House of Assembly Lokoja, we has recorded landmark achievements in plenary sittings, organizing constituency stakeholders meetings simultaneously with constituents, effective oversight activities and in responding earnestly to the people in needs. A focused legislator, who work within his six major templates, which are; Effective Representation and Legislation, Youth Empowerment/Entrepreneurship Programmes, Development of Basic and Social amenities, Employment generation for Graduates and School Leavers, Welfare package for the elderly, widows and less privileges, Education and Social Services.
Hon. Ahmed Mohammed so far on the floor of the house has moved important motions on issues bothering Ankpa LGA, the challenges of Insecurity in Ankpa LGA and Kogi state in General, Ankpa water board, Ankpa Zonal Hospital, The need for the state government to rehabilitate, equip, and ensure efficient functioning of the Government Technical Colleges in Kogi State, Etc. He has up to eight (10) motions to his name and was awarded by many groups, NGOs, CSOs Media Houses, including the Umbrella body of all Youth organisation in Kogi State-The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter as Best Legislator of the year.
