Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, has described Agriculture as the major fulcrum that will drive the industrial development of the State.
Capt. Idris Wada stated this at the presentation and commissioning of ten tractors purchased by the State Government for rice farmers as part of its flood recovery programme.
The State Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi explained that the State Government is resolute to tap into the Federal Government Agenda for rice farming, disclosed that 10,000 hectares of land has been cleared for rice farming while another for cassava he noted is also receiving attention.
The concentration and government resolve to place Agriculture on the front burning in its activities has become so essential to ensure that farmers affected by flood in the state feet Wada disclosed.
Similarly, the seriousness to invest in Agriculture, Capt. Wada explained is part of a desire to tap into the abundance arable land, water and human resources the State is blessed with.
Through the support of the Korean Government, the State the Governor stated has established Rice Mills, while an approval for the purchase and erection of four Cassava Mills as a pilot scheme to assist in processing the expected bumper harvest in rice and cassava by the state.
Earlier in his speech, Dr. Femi Abolarin, Commissioner of Agriculture, commended the Capt. Wada administration in its determination to reposition the Agric Sector in the State, noting that the end result of the efforts will ensure self sustenance and improved economy.
