A state-of-the-art Maths and Computer Centre has been donated to Ilafin Community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi state by friends of the son of Late Chief Joseph Olanrenwaju Owoeye.

The Centre was donated in recognition of the contributions of Chief Owoeye, a former lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, to humanity and as a lover of mathematics.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Agbana of Isanlu, Oba Moses Etombi said the centre is the best way of immortalising Chief Owoeye.

Oba Etombi described the late community leader as a selfless and humble leader who dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity.

According to him, even on the sick bed, Chief Owoeye still contributed to community development, saying his demise has created a vacuum too difficult to fill.

President of Ilafin Development Association (IDA), Mr. Joseph Awe described the facility as a timely intervention ad assured that necessary measures will be put in place to safeguard the centre.

Mr Awe announced that IDA has given financial support to 16 indigent students studying in tertiary institutions across the nation in honour of late Joseph Owoeye.

“As part of the events to celebrate the exit of our icon, Chief Joseph Owoeye, through the efforts of the National Executive of the Ilafin Development Association and some loving and caring sons of Ilafin, we gave financial support to 10 indigent students at Victory College Ilafin and 16 students across different higher institutions in the country in memory of Late Chief J O Owoeye.

“This is part of the efforts at keeping his legacies alive. We hope to make this an annual event by identifying and supporting the indigent students amongst us,” he said.

A long time friend of the deceased and former Commissioner for Education in old Kwara state, Dr. David Atteh maintained that the Late Chief Owoeye will be missed for his generosity, humility, honesty and truth.

Speaking on behalf of the friends that donated the facility, Dr. Bawa Kyauta noted that the centre is the best way of immortalising the late educationist, urging the community to guard it against vandals.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the eldest son, Mr. Peter Owoeye thanked all that identified with them, saying his late father lived a selfless life.

Mr. Owoeye said as part of immortalising their father, a mathematics competition will soon be organised to promote the subject.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Chief Olukayode Ajulo.

Frontline Kogi state politician, Dr Toyin Akanle, judges of high courts, traditional rulers, national assembly members from Plateau state among several others attended the burial ceremony.

At the Service of Songs at First ECWA Church in Lokoja on Thursday, Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, pledged to immortalise Late Joseph Owoeye for his immense contribution to the educational development and growth of the state-owned institution.

He pointed out Baba Owoeye was one of the greatest fathers of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja.

The rector eulogised the deceased immense contributions to the growth and development of the institution during the formative years, noting that when he came on board as the rector of the polytechnic he heard a lot of the good legacies left on the indelible sand of time by the deceased.
