The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Elder Leke Joseph Abejide, has paid glowing tribute to fallen officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing their sacrifice as the bedrock of the nation’s peace, unity and sovereignty.
Abejide gave the commendation on Thursday during activities marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) 2026, observed nationwide in honour of military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
In his message, the lawmaker eulogised the fallen heroes for their courage, patriotism and ultimate sacrifice, noting that Nigeria remains eternally indebted to those who paid the supreme price in defence of the country.
“Our fallen heroes laid down their lives so that Nigeria may stand united. Their bravery and selflessness will forever be remembered, and their sacrifices must never be taken for granted,” Abejide said.
He also commended serving officers and men of the Armed Forces for their resilience and professionalism in the face of evolving security challenges, including insurgency, banditry and other threats to national stability.
According to him, the commitment of the military continues to inspire confidence among citizens and highlights the importance of sustained support for the Armed Forces through improved welfare, modern equipment and strong institutional backing.
Abejide urged Nigerians to use the occasion of AFCRD to reflect on the price of freedom and to show renewed appreciation for the Armed Forces by supporting peace-building efforts and national unity.
He further called on the government at all levels to prioritise the welfare of military personnel and the families of fallen heroes, stressing that such support remains a moral obligation of the nation.
The Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is marked annually with wreath-laying ceremonies, prayers and military parades across the country to honour Nigeria’s fallen and serving military personnel.
