The Chairman of Kogi State Football Association, Hassan Wada, has assured Super Eagles midfielder, Usman Mohammed (known as Usey 10 10), that the state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is proud of his exploits.

Wada made this known when he visited Kogi-born Super Eagles midfielder in Morocco after Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique.

Usman, who plays for Ironi Tiberias in the Israeli Premier League, was very happy to see the chairman. He said it felt good to connect with his home state.

“Usey 10 10” got his first call-up to the senior Super Eagles team for the ongoing AFCON in Morocco. He became known as a creative midfielder while playing for Nigeria’s junior national teams.

Usman is from Kogi State. His father is from Egume and his mother is from Abocho, both in Dekina Local Government Area. He was born and raised in Sokoto State, where he started playing football. His father is the leader of the Igala people in Sokoto, known as Ọnụ Igala.

Born on March 2, 1994, Usman finished secondary school at Federal Government College, Sokoto in 2010. He joined the school team as early as JSS1 because of his great skills.

After school, he played for Nigerian clubs like Ranchers Bees in Kaduna and Taraba United. He later moved abroad to play professionally.

Usman captained Nigeria’s U-23 team that won gold at the 2015 U-23 AFCON in Senegal. He also started for the U-23 “Dream Team” that won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The chairman’s visit was to show support for Usman. He told him that Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo and football fans in the state are proud of him.

Wada prayed for Usman’s success at the AFCON and asked him to stay loyal to Nigeria.

The chairman is in Morocco to watch and support the Super Eagles, something he has done for almost 20 years. He said the current team is making Nigerians happy with their exciting attacking football. He added that Usman’s place in the senior team is a big pride for Kogi State and the whole country.

Nigeria has won all their group games and the second-round match against Mozambique. They will play Algeria in the quarter-finals on Saturday, January 10, at Marrakech Stadium.
