Address All Screening Related Matters – Kogi Speaker

Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam has appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello to resolve all matters related to civil service screeningand pension reform .
In a welcome address to mark the two (2) years anniversary and the end of second legislative session of the 6th Assembly, the Speaker made the plea while applauding the Governor’s support and cooperation in transforming the Assembly Complex from its sorry state to a befitting edifice as well as his courage, political will and determination to holistically reform the civil service and pension administration. According to him, ‘what is required is one last effort to address all related matters concerning the screening’ to remove the thorns in the flesh of the administration’.
Speaking on the achievements of the House in the last two years, the Speaker said the House has recorded tremendous success in the number of motions passed and resolutions reached.
Highlighting the role the House played in the State civil service and pension reform, the Speaker said: ‘while the constituents whose mandate we graciously enjoy as representatives feel strongly that we, as a House, have not done enough to intervene, I must emphasize today, even though, the reform of the civil service and the pension is the call of the  executive, we have nonetheless, intervened severally; by appearances of the screening Committee Members before the House, resolutions passed highlighting the position of the House by personal interaction by the Honourable Members of the House’.
According to him, the Honourable members have diligently fulfilled their constitutional powers as captured in the constitution to justify the mandate of their constituents.
The Speaker while appealing to the people to be patient and emphasizing that they do not have to be confrontational with the Executive before the people know that they have their best interest at heart, said the Legislators gave their absolute cooperation to the successes recorded by the Executive Arm through immediate consideration and approval of policy instrument, requests and as well prioritized excellent relationship that promotes social security order, and good governance.
He further call on the Governor to undertake to complete the ongoing renovation of the Assembly complex, construct an office for the Honourable members, and assent to the Bill establishing the State House of Assembly Service Commission recently passed by the House.
