The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kogi State chapter, has written to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbas, seeking the immediate declaration of the Yagba Federal Constituency seat vacant following the expulsion of Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide from the party.

The letter, dated Nov. 11, 2025, and received by the Office of the Speaker on Nov. 13, was jointly signed by the ADC State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, and the State Secretary, Comrade Adaji John Udale.

In the correspondence titled “Notification of Expulsion / Request to Declare Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide’s Seat Vacant,” the party informed the House that Abejide was expelled for gross misconduct and anti-party activities contrary to the provisions of the ADC Constitution.

According to the letter, the lawmaker was earlier suspended on Aug. 4, 2025, along with four others, for anti-party activities before his expulsion was confirmed by the Appeal Committee on Aug. 28, 2025.

The party stated that Abejide’s expulsion was due to his refusal to appear before the Appeal Committee and his continued public utterances against the ADC on national television and other media platforms.

“Subsequently, he was expelled by the Appeal Committee set up to review his case due to his failure to appear before the committee on Aug. 28, 2025, and his continuous anti-party remarks on various national television stations against the party,” the letter read.

The ADC leadership urged the National Assembly to act in accordance with the law and declare the Yagba Federal Constituency seat vacant, stressing that “the vote belongs to the party, not the candidate.”

“Furthermore, we request that the seat of Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide be declared vacant. This is in line with the provision of the law, which states clearly that the vote belongs to the party, and not the candidate,” the statement added.

The party also attached all relevant documents, including the official expulsion letter and minutes of the disciplinary and appeal committee meetings, to support its claim.

Efforts to reach Abejide for his reaction were not successful as of the time of filing this report, but sources close to the lawmaker said he was consulting with his legal team over the development.

Our reporter recalls that Hon. Abejide, who won his re-election to the House of Representatives on the ADC platform in 2023, has been facing internal wranglings with the state leadership of the party following disagreements over alleged disloyalty and poor relationship with the state executive.
