Candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 2023 governorship election in Kogi state, Hon Leke Abejide, has notified his supporters of his intention to grace the swearing-in ceremony of Governor-elect Usman Ododo.
Ododo will be sworn in as Governor of Kogi state in Lokoja on Saturday.
In a message sent to his supporters on Friday, Abejide said he is still a member of ADC, contrary to speculations that he has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“On the First Day of 2024, Governor-Elect Usman Ododo paid a New Year’s visit to me and the moment our pictures got into the public domain people started insinuating that I had moved from ADC to APC. And on Sunday 21st January, 2024 I visited Governor Yahaya Bello to discuss some issues that affect my people directly and our dear State-Kogi.
“It was that visit that made people to conclude finally that I had moved to APC. If I am going to take any step of that nature I will officially inform my political associates in an enlarged meeting where the modalities will be discussed and agreed upon. As of now, I am a member of the African Democratic Congress although most of my political leaders are in APC because that was my former political party and we are working together at a high level to move Nigeria forward. This is the reason people are thinking I am now in APC.
“I want to use this medium to inform my numerous supporters that the election is not war and politics are over; now is the time for governance. In the interest of our dear State, we should come together irrespective of our party affiliation to move the State forward once the State Governor extends hands of fellowship to us. All I am after now is GOOD GOVERNANCE,” he said.
Abejide said his decision to attend Ododo’s swearing-in ceremony is to further buttress his ‘politics without bitterness’ slogan.
