Workers of Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State yesterday protested the 30 per cent payment of their monthly salaries.
It was gathered that in the last 22, workers of the local government have been receiving only 30 per cent of their monthly salaries.

It was further gathered that after the presidential bail-out for states and local governments across the country, the workers demanded full payment of their salaries, but the council insisted on the 30 per cent. The protest disrupted activities at the secretariat and its environs as the workers blocked the highway.
Addressing the protesters, Chairman of NULGE in the state, Mr Mohammed Isah, alleged that while the local government could not pay salaries of its workers, “the same management has reserved money to buy Sallah gifts for political fathers”.
He said: “We are being owed 14 months salaries and there is no sign of concern on the part of the management. Many of us can no longer eat properly let alone send our children to school. We are calling on the state governor, Idris Wada, to come to our aid because the suffering is becoming unbearable.”
The Police Area Commander, ACP Kolawole .O., who dispersed the protesting workers, said it was wrong of them to take the law into their hands. He warned them on the danger of blocking highways.
Efforts to speak with the Senior Special Assistant to the governor in charge of local government proved abortive as he was said to be out of town.
