Kogi State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s local government election in the state.
State chairman of ACN, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo in a statement issued in Lokoja described the election as a sham saying the opposition parties had earlier withdrawn from the process following the refusal of the state electoral commission to address basic issues it said could hinder the election.
“We therefore reject out rightly the allocation of 14 councillorship seats to the opposition parties by the SIEC. It was a desperate attempt by the PDP led government to give credibility to the election that was boycotted by the larger percentage of the people of the state,” he said.
Alhaji Ametuo also described the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected chairmen in the state as a farewell party for a political party that is on its way to wilderness, assuring that the opposition would take over both the state and the federal level in 2015 and called on the National Assembly to scrap the states independent electoral commissions so as to deepen democracy in the country.
