… vows to promote fabrics.
The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr Abubakar Ohere has on Saturday 13th May, 2017 empowered not less than sixty weavers of Ebira fabrics.
The programme which was held in Okene Local Government Secretariat had in attendance, weavers who are majorly widows and drawn from across the central senatorial district of the state.
The Special Adviser who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Abubakar E.S. Ozioto Abubakar stated that the empowerment was in furtherance of the State Governor’s strides in promoting locally made products, and bringing governance to the grassroot.
According to him, the selection of the beneficiaries was based on expertise in weaving, and devoid of political affiliation.
“Where there is good governance, one does not need to know anyone or be connected to a politician to be empowered,” he said.
While urging the women to ensure they educate their children, he stressed the need to promote the indigenous culture of the Ebira people.
Also speaking, the General Manager of Tao FM, Dr Halimat Salihu revealed that the empowerment is the first of its kind for weavers in Ebira land.
While appreciating Abubakar Ohere for the gesture, she enjoined the beneficiaries to always pray for the leadership of the state.
Hajia Maryam Onyi Kogi, leader of the marketers of the product who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the Special Adviser, and appealed that similar gesture be extended to the marketers of the product.
