A chieftain of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Party (APDA), Kogi State chapter, Hon. Abdulmumini Ibrahim has called on lawmakers of Kogi extraction in the National Assembly to lobby for the extension of the recently revived Ajaokuta-Itakpe-Warri rail line to other important parts of the state.

In an exclusive interview with Kogireports, Abdulmumini urged Federal legislators from Kogi state to be more creative and think less of self aggrandizement.

He appealed to the lawmakers to for synergy with their colleagues from other states to see how they can key into the vision of the Rotimi Ameachi-led transport ministry and lobby for the extension of the current rail line to Obajana, Ankpa and possibly Otukpo in Benue state.

He explained that the extension will ease movement of cement from Obajana and coals from Okobo in Ankpa to the cement factory.

He added that the current means of transporting cement and coal across Kogi State is taking its toll on roads. He argued on the need to decongest Kogi highways that has become death traps.

“The heavy vehicular movements on our highways calls for alternative means of transporting industrial supplies and products. Extending the newly revived rail lines to Obajana and Ankpa in Kogi State will reduce the burden on the roads, stimulate the economy and even generate employment.

“Legislators from Kogi state must be seen to be representing the interest of the people, they must be proactive in keying into on-going developments in the country. The need for the extension of the rail lines to Ankpa, Obajana and possibly Otukpo, will help Kogi state in no small measure.

“Our legislators must think less about fighting for political survival, clinching on to APC, PDP tickets because they see these party tickets as a smooth access route to National Assembly even when they have nothing to offer. I call on Kogi people to shine their eyes this time around and identify those with best ideas. Leadership should be for those who are ready to accept the burden of responsibility,” he said.
