A statement by the new Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly Honourable Momoh Lawal on Wednesday, enjoined people of the state to disregard the claim by the impeached Speaker saying he was not impeached by the required two-third majority.
The statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the new Speaker, Mr Akubo Austin stated that the impeached Speaker, Honourable Abdullahi Bello was impeached by simple majority of 17 out of the 25 members.
The statement further noted that the governor and leadership of People’s Democratic Party in the state have already accepted Honourable Lawal as the new speaker of the state assembly.
“Members of mass media and general public are hereby called upon to disregard the utterances of the former Speaker or his aides claiming to still retain his seat after he has been impeached by the majority of the member of the house by all democratic standard and procedures” the statement read.
