Yagba Good Governance 2027 Advocacy Group has kicked against agitation to maintain the rotation arrangement for House of Representatives seat in Yagba federal constituency.

Addressing a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday, the group called on the people of Yagba federal constituency to allow merit and competence guide the choice of who represent them at the green chamber in 2027.

Spokesman of the group, Eniola Olayemi, urged the people of Yagba federal constituency not to be deceived by the antics and sinister motives of those politicians promoting selfish agenda of rotating the Reps seat in 2027.

Olayemi noted that the people of Yagba federal constituency would resist any attempt to divide the people just in the name of politics.

“We are aware of the sinister motive of the sponsors and executors of the agenda; there plans will be rejected.

“In 2024, some politicians allegedly hired guns for some thugs due to there selfish reasons to heat up the polity, more or less inviting firefighters where there is no fire.

“It is very ridiculous and selfish for a former representative to be canvassing for zoning instead of talking about competence and performance in governance.

“This ongoing agenda is sponsored by some overzealous politicians whose stock in trade is to eat from everywhere. The entire youth in Yagba would ensure such ideology does not see the light of the day,” he said.

Olayemi exposed current agitators of rotational Reps seat as same politicians who worked against candidates from Mopamuro in previous elections.

“Mopamuro Local Government first produced a representative in Yagbaland at the National Assembly and was supported by Yagba East and Yagba West.

“This same people were against Henry Abimbola and Olafemi Folorunsho in 2019 and 2023 respectively. We therefore condemn their recent selfish moves for agitating for same Mopamuro today.”

Olayemi said they will only be in support of a true democratic process.

“A good representative doesn’t have to come from zoning or a particular place. For example, Elder Leke Abejide, the present lawmaker for the federal constituency, did not just pay for students of Alu alone but paid WAEC fees for all students in Yagbaland.

“We therefore called on the good people of Yagbaland to discard and disregard the selfish agenda from those elders who have soiled their hands and not trusted by the people.

“We will not hesitate to expose them, if they do not desist from their parochial and selfish interest,” he stressed
