A civil society organization, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), has commended Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) for compiling and releasing statistics of local government elections conducted in the state last Saturday.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, CHRCR confirmed the availability of the details of the elections results from wards to local governments, and according to the scores of each political parties and winners in the 21 local governments.
Recall that CHRCR had earlier demanded the breakdown of results after Kogi SIEC announced winners of the elections in various wards and local governments without figures of votes garnered at the polls.
Miliki explained that CHRCR’s advocacy is part of its continuous post elections review.
“Despite this slightly delay in the released of these all-important figures, it is now available for researchers, documentation and dissemination of information with regard to the elections conducted and can now serve as a reference,” he said.
CHRCR commended SIEC for the bold step and urge the commission to review the elections further and identified lessons learnt through various recommendations by various stakeholders that participated in the elections and the electoral process.
The civil society organization advised Kogi SIEC to upload the all-important figures and statistics to their website for proper information dissemination.
