The Presiding Bishop of Chapel of Freedom International Churches, Lokoja, Dr. John Ibenu, has urged Christians to emulate the virtues of love and sacrifice as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
He stated this during the church service to mark Easter Sunday in Lokoja.
Bishop Ibenu stated that the resurrection of Jesus showed that what is dead can rise again, adding that Nigeria and Kogi state will rise again.
“The message of Easter is that of hope.
“Jesus gave his life willingly for the sins of the whole world. He died for the emancipation of the world and then, he rose on third day. It was a sacrificial life.
“On this occasion, I want to appeal to Nigerians, beginning with our leaders, that we imbibe the spirit of sacrifice. From the president to the lowest person. The life of a man does not consist in what he has. All you have is meaningless unless you use it for the emancipation of others.
“Jesus rose on this Sunday to show us that what is dead can rise again. I want to encourage all Nigerians that this nation can rise again. Kogi state will rise again. We will rise again. Let us not despair.
“We want to appeal to our politicians, because they are the ones who make the decisions for the rest of us. We want them to act with the spirit of sacrifice, patriotism, fear of God and giving for it is more blessed to give than to receive.
“On this day, I say happy resurrection morning to every Nigerian, every Kogite and our leaders. Let us imbibe the example of Jesus. Let us sacrifice for others to rise. let us sacrifice for a new Nigeria,” he said.
Bishop Ibenu expressed the optimism that Nigeria will emerge stronger from the current economic and security challenges.
