Entries to participate in the annual Augustine Shina Akande (ASA) essay competition has commenced.

The competition is an initiative of Canada-based Kogite, Augustine Shina Akande, who believes that education is a universal equalizer and is committed to contributing his quota to the advancement of education in his state of Kogi.

It is an annual event for current secondary school students enrolled in schools across Kogi State.

The contest is aimed at developing effective writing skills and fostering a communal bond among school children across the country, the underwriter said in a statement.

Topic for the current edition of the annual contest is ‘The Nigerian Judiciary as the Lost Hope of the Common Man’.

Only students enrolled in a senior secondary school in Kogi State, both public and private, are eligible to participate in the contest.

Interested students are required to send their essay entry and proof of school enrolment to augustineakande@yahoo.com

Closing date is 30 January 2024.

Winner will go home with N50,000, first runner up will win N30,000 while third place gets N20,000.

In the first edition of the essay competition, Omalabu Lois of Holy Ghost College, Okura, Dekina local government area of Kogi state emerged overall winner of the competition.

Fastina Joseph of Holy Ghost College, Okura, Dekina, was adjudged first runner up, while Joy Osepere Mosugu of Celebrity International School, Lokongoma, Lokoja, emerged second runner up.
