Here in Nigeria, there’s definitely a gigantic electoral drama to watch in about a couple of months.
Listen up, haven’t you noticed that our leaders are always from amongst us? Sometimes last week, I was having a chat with my boomer boss. First, we talked about the sit at home order that has continued to ridicule the economic strength of Nigeria especially those from the eastern extract. I was curious to know the way out. I talked graciously about how Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would do fine if given the opportunity to serve as a president. He turned, looked at me and said ” What about Peter Obi, Prof Yemi Osinbajo…? is Atiku in any way better than them?”
I was about to say a thing or two but my boss summarily declared that he finds the Nigerian situation very unfortunate.
“The many leaders we’ve had are all Nigerians. You see, they were first Nigerians before they became Nigerian leaders. In other words, there is a foundational problem.”
“Take a look at Anambra state”, he said “They seem to have an elite governor with foresight but the cabal wouldn’t let him be. First, the agbero’s wants a comeback. A come back to extortion, lobby, bribery…Then there are those who glory in thwarting the effort of his excellency”.
“Kayode, the core of leadership is honesty at all levels. Then we can talk about other factors and institutions. Until then, No professor, party leader, Former Governor, Senate Leader should be taken seriously. I think we are only presented with the option of choosing a lesser evil”
For now, we can only watch and see as these men fervently pursue a return to doing what they know how to do best. I am talking about glorifying in flyovers, ASUU strike, bad road, incessant borrowing, medical tourism, injustice, stomach infrastructure, inflation, embarrassing secrets… Let us wait to choose a man with a lesser ball to do all the aforementioned.
