Kogi Tanker Explosion: Wada, Kolawole, Natasha Mourns, Calls for Proactive Measures

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 Kogi poll, Engr. Musa Wada has commiserated with the families of those whose lives were lost in the tanker explosion in Lokoja on Wednesday.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Wada urged Kogi state government to put necessary checks in place to avert re-occurence.

“I am deeply saddened by this incident. My prayers are with families of those who lost their lives in today’s tragic incident.

“God will do the needful and continue to stand by his people,” he said.

Wada called on Kogi state emergency management agency (KOSEMA) to ascertain the level of damage and provide succour for the victims and families of those who lost their lives.

Reacting, Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole expressed sadness on the unfortunate auto accident.

In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Femi Olugbemi, the Speaker said it is very pathetic and sorrowful to lose such vulnerable children who were on their way to school when the unfortunate incident occurred.

He promised to work with other stakeholders in the sub sector to ensure enforcement of existing laws that will reduce carnage on roads in the state. 

He commiserated with the families of the victims, praying that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

In the same vein, Kogi-born social entrepreneur, Barr. Natasha Hadiza Akpoti sent her condolences to the families of the victims.

She called on the state government to intensify proactive measures to prevent re-occurrence and also put in place prompt response fire service facilities in strategic places.

“My heart goes out to the victims of the tanker explosion mostly who are said to be students. It is really tragic and sad. I urge the government to be proactive in road use and disaster management,” Akpoti said.
