Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, is doing a hard job given to him to sell the government and the governor. However, it is only right that as public servants we must be diligent in our dealings and public statements.
Fanwo’s statement on citizenship patriotism is ridiculous, boastful and an insult on our collective intelligence.
The statement which intends to demonize the people was very insulting and thus shows a complete disregard for the people. In fact, I thought the government and its marketers should be ashamed by now not to continue to remind the people of their agony of living in a state of despair, hunger and lack of their hard earned salaries which they have received in percentages, if paid at all for such a long time.
Funny enough. Fanwo mentioned vandalization of street lights at Natako. I wish to challenge the commissioner to kindly take a photograph of his claim on the people of Kogi state whom he has described as criminals. So that at least we can see the state of the road at Natako where these street lights were claimed to have been installed and vandalised.
Certainly, you can fool some people some times but you can do same to all the people all the times.
I think at this point, the government of Governor Yahaya Bello should look back and see the funds that came in to the state in the last few years as compared to almost nothing as infrastructure to show for it; as doing this will allow the government to meet a little; the needs and aspiration of the people instead of this continued self evaluation which has continued in the face of colossal and glaring failure of government to deliver it social contract it entered with the people.
As the commissioner of information, it may be interesting to tell the whole world, projects and programs of this administration which are tangible for all to see and not to attack the people as criminals; destroying street lights in public places which to me is a mirror image of the so much noise made on improvement on security and protection of life and properties across the state.
The question is this, if a government which boost of improved security is crying in the public that public properties are now been vandalised in a popular area and in the state capital, then I wonder how safe those in the rural area will be.
While I call on the entire citizen to pray for the Governor to deliver on the dividends of democracy for all of us, we will not tolerate statements aimed at attacking the image of Kogi people.
Government should wake up from their sleep and protect the people and their properties; an oath they took before assuming the office; and not to shift the goal post when the game is on.
This is a wake up call.
