Oversight: Halims Leads House Committee on Steel Development to MTI Onitsha

Member representing Ankpa federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims and his counterparts, Hon Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro and Hon Bashir Mashema of Eti-osa and Jama’are/Itas-Gadau federal constituencies respectively has visited the Metallurgical Training Institute (MTI), Onitsha in Anambra state as part of their legislative oversight functions.

After receiving the committee, the MD/CEO of the institute, Rev. Bode Fakuade, in his welcome address, reviewed the organizational profile of the institute with citations of her successes and current challenges, appealing to the committee to assist the institute with all the necessary parliamentary supports it can get to move forward.

In his response, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Steel Development, Hon Halims noted that the committee was at the institute in fulfillment of their legislative duties assuring the director and staff of the institute of the House’s readiness to make available all necessary supports that will guarantee maximum productivity.

On his part, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Rep Obanikoro expressed satisfaction at the institute’s general performance, especially prototypes of outstanding students’ exit project which were shown to the committee at the exhibition center of the institute.

Earlier, Hon Halims called on the chief executive of the institute to initiate a solid organizational partnership with the Ajaokuta Steel Company and Itakpe Iron Ore, expressing optimism that the Ajaokuta coy is near full operations.

Highlight of the visitation was a facility tour across the different departments of the institute.
