Coronavirus: Hon Halims Suspends Appointments, Urges Constituents to Stay at Home

Member representing Ankpa federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims, has directed the suspension of all upcoming appointments, visitations and schedules, urging his constituents and development partners to stay at home and be safe in the wake of the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement issued on Friday, Halims disclosed that he has also suspended all trips in order to avoid and contain the spread of the COVID-19.

He commended the federal and state government on the closure of public and private schools as well as tertiary institutions.

The lawmaker who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Mines and Steel Development explained that the suspension of all upcoming appointments, visitation and other schedules are as part of his precautionary measures being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

He appealed to the people of his constituency to abide by all instructions and guidelines issued by the state government, saying that Coronavirus risks increase with mass gatherings.

According to the him, constituted authorities have a duty to work with all health guidelines and relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring that everything humanly possible is been done to reduce the chance of the virus taking root and spreading in the country.

As part of the required efforts to bring succor to the people, Hon Halims revealed that the leadership of the National Assembly has met with members of the Executive such as the Minister of Finance, the Minister of State on Petroleum, the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, GMD NNPC, the head Budget Office, Ben Akabueze and the Debt Management Office to consider interventions to cushion the negative economic impact of COVIDー19  on the country’s economy.

The statement further called on the people of Ankpa federal constituency in particular and the state in general to show more understanding while the pandemic last and prayed for God’s intervention against the spread of Coronavirus disease in the country.
