Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Senator Dino Melaye, has given his reasons for supporting the Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello during the emergence of the latter in office.

Melaye recently made this statement during an interview with Channels TV reporter, Seun Okinbaloye on the show ‘Politics Today’.

He said: “Seun, I want to tell you that, once I was blind but now I can see. I supported Yahaya Bello on two grounds viz-a-viz; that is a young man and I expected him not to behave in the manner he is currently exhibiting. Secondly, he graduated from my alma mater, Ahmadu Bello University where I expected that anyone who passed through that great university, the university ought to have passed through him.

“Unfortunately, he passed through the university but the university did not passed through him. So, the assumption that I have on him as a young man who is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, is that he is going to be compassionate with the people but (cut-in).”

When further asked on how he would be able to convince the electorates in the state for his sudden rejection of Yahaya Bello whom he had earlier supported, the lawmaker said: “You don’t know a man until you access him.

“Unfortunately, Yahaya Bello is a coronated governor who never went round to campaign, neither has he won election or contested election before.

“This is the first time he’s trying to contest an election. So, we have no grounds to access him or test his competence or veracity. We don’t know him from anywhere as there was no criteria to use to access him.

“This is the first time we’ll have opportunity to access him but unfortunately his performance so far is a beautiful nonsense,” he added.
